A&M International's Dance Team Holds Auditions April 18

Texas A&M International University's dance team, the High Twisters, will hold auditions for the 1998-1999 team on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 3 p.m. in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building.

Auditions are open to A&M International students and graduating local and area high school students who meet the following qualifications: be enrolled at A&M International in Fall 1998 at least half-time, have at least 1 year of varsity dance team or cheerleading experience, have at least a 2.0 overall grade point average, and must not have been professional dancers.

Rooms in University Village, A&M International's apartment-style dormitories, are available for audition participants April 17 - 18. Rooms are $23.50 plus tax per person per night. Linen and toiletries will be provided. Rooms have a fully equipped kitchen and the Village has a swimming pool, sundeck, volleyball court, and community center with big screen television. Room reservations may be made by calling Mike Hanley at 326-0160.

Those who plan to participate in the auditions must attend a mandatory dance workshop on Friday, April 17 from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building. The workshop will be conducted by an instructor with the United Dance Team Association (UDA). Workshop participants will learn the 90-second choreographed routine which must be performed for the audition. Fee to attend the workshop is $10.

Persons who need more information on the mandatory workshop, the auditions, or the High Twisters are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 15 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the foyer of the Kinesiology/Convocation Building. The informational meeting will be conducted by High Twisters sponsor Araceli S. Rangel.
