A&M International Students Inducted Into Alpha Kappa Delta

Three Texas A&M International University students were inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society, during a special initiation ceremony held recently in the University's Great Room.

During the ceremony the inductees, Maria Van Dyke, Mauro Rodriguez, and Nancy Garza, were each presented with a certificate to commemorate their lifetime membership in Alpha Kappa Delta.

The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Cecilia Garza, Alpha Kappa Delta faculty sponsor and assistant professor of sociology at A&M International. Sandra Sanders, a sociologist and associate director of the University's Academic Enrichment Center, was keynote speaker.

Membership in Alpha Kappa Delta is limited to students with superior scholarship and serious interest in sociology.

A&M International was granted charter membership in Alpha Kappa Delta last year. The A&M International chapter is officially named Alpha Zeta of Texas.

A&M International students inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta last year were Tamara Davis Casso, Estella Yvette Coronado, Jaime Gabriel Garza, Karen Louise Hale, Veronica G. Martinez, Edward P. Matos, and Melinda Vidaurri.

Founded in 1920, Alpha Kappa Delta derives its name from the first letters of three Greek words: anthropon (mankind), katamanthaneion (to investigate thoroughly or to conduct research), and diakonesein (for the purpose of service). When translated freely, the three-word phrase expresses both the goal and the method of the organization--to study humankind for the purpose of service.
