While Texas A&M International University students study business in Europe this summer, a group of college students from Mexico will be visiting the University campus to take business courses here.

The students, enrolled in different branches of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) throughout Mexico, will enroll in two business courses during Summer Session I, or June 1-July 6. Courses will include those in international transportation and logistics, international business and international marketing.

Dr. Michael Patrick, chair of the department of economics and finance, said that the College of Business Administration is expecting an enrollment of 20 to 50 students from the ITESM. The students who have registered for the courses so far include those from Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Morelos, and they will stay at the new student residential facility, the University Village.

A welcoming reception for the students will be held Sunday, May 31 at 6 p.m. at the University Village.

Patrick explained that the College of Business Administration started the summer class program last year to expand its working relationship with Mexican universities.

"This is like an executive development program. Students come here, take non-academic courses, and we certify to their university that they took the class and the grades they received in the class," Patrick said. "The benefits that our students will get is that the Mexican students are taking summer courses with them. This gives our students an opportunity for interaction, exchange of ideas and it's a great cultural experience because our students come out with more knowledge about Mexico and even the possibility of job opportunities," he added.

Patrick added that the College of Business Administration will also receive students from Universidad Americana of Paraguay during Summer Session II. These students, like those from the ITESM, will take business courses and receive a certificate upon completion of their courses.
