Texas A&M International University students interested in learning about computer and multimedia technology and developing consulting skills at the same time now have the opportunity to participate in a unique internship program at the University.

The CTS Internship program, a semester-long program that is designed to give full-time A&M International students valuable practical experience on computer related topics, will start on campus this summer. A total of 10 students will be chosen to participate this summer. Those interested in participating are encouraged to apply before June 3.

Once in the program, interns will receive approximately 25 hours of technical hands-on training. The training includes areas such as the media center, audio visuals, Macintosh platforms and PC compatible platforms.

After their training, the interns will be expected to consult with other students approximately 10 hours per week towards approximately 100 hours per semester.

"The purpose of this internship is to provide interested students with hands on experience in designing and developing electronic presentations and helping fellow students," said Dr. George K. Kostopoulos, professor of information systems.

Lakshmana Viswanath, director of Computer and Telecommunication Services at A&M International, said that the internship program is a pilot program at the University, which he hopes will continue every semester.

"The experience the students are going to get is in helping other students on technology-related questions," Viswanath said, adding that the students will be consulting at the University's Media Center once they finish their training.

For further information on the CTS internship program or the application process, please contact Viswanath at 326-2300 or Dr. Kostopoulos at 326-2524. University office hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
