New A&M International Program Helps Employees Continue Education

A new program at Texas A&M International University is helping A&M International employees continue their higher education.

The new Employee Educational Assistance Program allows qualified full-time University employees to receive reimbursement for a portion of tuition and fees for courses completed at the University.

A&M International President Dr. Charles Jennett said the program provides an extra avenue for employees to continue their education.

"One thing that we would like to stress is that education is a never-ending process, and the University is proud to help its employees achieve academic success," said Dr. Jennett.

Twenty-nine University employees participated in the new program during the Spring semester. Those employees were: Gabriela Alonzo, Annette Arce, Amy Armstrong, Jacqueline Benavides, Adriana Blanco, Federico Bouvier IV, Duane Burdorf, Norma Alicia Cano, Ruben Costilla, Claudia Davila, Mary E. Gonzalez, Abril S. Granados, Carlos Guardiola, Phyllis Hall, Jose Luis Longoria, Maria Imelda Lopez, Elizabeth Martinez, Elizabeth N. Martinez, Oscar Muñoz, Mario Peña, Maria R. Rosillo, Annie P. Salinas, Celinda Sarabia, Rebecca Sepulveda, Juanita M. Soliz, J. Scott Stuckey, Sara Vallarta, Miroslava Vargas, and Lakshmana Viswanath.

Dr. Jennett is thrilled that University employees are taking advantage of this new opportunity and hopes more will participate in the future.

"As we continue this program, I hope that more employees will take advantage of it, thus enhancing themselves and their future," he added.

To be eligible for the program, University employees must be employed full-time and have at least six months of continuous service with A&M International. Additionally, those pursuing undergraduate degrees must have a grade point average of 2.0 per semester and graduate students must have a 3.0 GPA. Employees who qualify for the program may be reimbursed for three in-state credit hours per semester and up to six in-state credit hours per academic year.
