University's Drought Relief Information Center Hosts Conference Tues., Aug. 18

The Texas A&M International University Drought Relief Information Center, together with the Agricultural Extension Service, will host a free one-day "1998 Drought Conference" on Tuesday, August 18 from 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the University in Canseco Hall room 101.

The Conference will introduce participants to the University's new Drought Relief Information Center which is dedicated to collecting and disseminating drought information and identifying relief sources. The Drought Center is housed in the University's College of Business Administration in Pellegrino Hall. It opened in April.

Among the topics to be discussed during the Conference is the current drought situation in South Texas. Speakers will include Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry and other specialists in the field of drought and water resources.

The conference is sponsored by State Representatives Henry Cuellar and Tracy King. Rep. Cuellar authored the legislation which established the Drought Center.
