Local technology companies interested in promoting their products next to top-of-the-line products such as those by Intel, Compaq, Lotus and Microsoft, are encouraged to participate in a systems and electronic commerce symposium scheduled to take place Sept. 23-25 in Nuevo Laredo.

The conference, titled "The International Symposium of Systems and Electronic Commerce," is designed to offer the academic and professional communities in both Laredos an overview of the latest trends in the educational and industrial fields. The conference's program will also analyze these trends by offering sessions which will cover topics pertaining to the technologies in use today in institutions of higher learning and in companies of international caliber who share a vision of virtual and physical growth.

Organizers of the conference include the Texas A&M International University Electronic Commerce Association, a student group, and the Asociación de Comercio Electrónico at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas in Nuevo Laredo, said Nadia Plasencia, secretary of the Texas A&M International University Electronic Commerce Association.

The conference will take place at the Auditorium of the Customs Society of Nuevo Laredo, Cesar López de Lara 3603, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. each of the three days. The cost of registration before Aug. 21 will be U.S. $80 for students and $115 for company representatives. The cost after Aug. 21 will be $90 for students and $130 for company representatives.

"The advantage in participating in a symposium like this is that you will have the most important technology companies present to show you new technology so that you can learn how to apply it to your company or school," said Abelardo García Vizcaya, international coordinator for the Texas A&M International University Electronic Commerce Association.

Some of the subjects to be discussed include information and its social impact, Internet services, video conferencing, information and communication technology, today's learning environment and technology, on-line consulting services and virtual schools.

Organizations scheduled to participate in the symposium include the Instituto Technológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Cydsa, SIS, IBM , CITI, Universidad Regiomontana (Monterrey) and Dinastia.
