New Courses, Degrees Offered at A&M International This Fall

From Dante to dance and frescoes to physics, this Fall Semester at Texas A&M International University will feature a larger array of courses and degrees available than ever before.

Over the past year A&M International has been granted approval for new degrees including a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, and a Bachelors of Science in Sports Fitness.

Other recent additional undergraduate degree areas added include biology , communications, and chemistry. New graduate degrees include political science, international logistics and Spanish. The additions boost the number of undergraduate degrees to 26 and graduate degrees to 22.

The new degrees, coupled with enrollment growth and faculty expansion, have also made possible new course areas for students.

Among new courses scheduled this fall are anthropology, French, dance, film literature, visual and performing arts, intercultural communication, herpetology, operatic tradition, band, superintendency, multi-media, aerobic activities and more.

Introduction to Anthropology, ANTH 1301-101 will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-9:50 a.m. with instruction by Jaclyn Jeffrey.

Elementary French 1301-101 will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-10:50 a.m. by Dr. Enrique Fernandez.

Dance Performance 1151-161-Flamenco, will be offered on Fridays from 6-8:30 p.m. It is but one of four dance classes planned ranging from fitness and modern performance to ballet and jazz by new faculty member Bede Leyendecker.

Film Literature ENG 4365-160 meets Thursdays from 6:30- 9 p.m. with instruction by new faculty member Dr. Sean Chadwell.

Introduction to Visual and Performing Arts, FIN 2315-101 will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11-11:50 a.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. Instruction will be by new faculty members Friedreich Gechter and Janet E. Krueger respectively.

Intercultural Communication SPCH 3351-160, part of the University's new Communications degree, will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6:15 p.m. Instruction will be by Lisa Gardner Flores.

Herpetology, the branch of zoology that deals with reptiles and amphibians, will be the focus of BIO 4404-4102 offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-9:15 a.m. with a lab from 9:30-a.m. to 12:30 p.m. by Dr. Thomas Vaughan.

Operatic Traditions will be the subject of MUSI 1301-161 from 5-6:15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays with instruction by Friedreich Gechter.

ART 4135-101 will give students a chance to play with the University's new band in a class meeting Mondays from 6:30-8 p.m. under the instruction of director/conductor Elmo Lopez Sr.

Area education administrators considering superintendency may be interested in EDAM 5352-161, a course in public school business affairs that is part of the University's Superintendency Program. The course will be offered Wednesdays from 6:30-9 p.m. with instruction by new faculty member Dr. Carolyn E. McCreight.

An introductory course to multi-media with a computer information systems focus (CIS 3360-101), will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-4:45 p.m. by Dr. George Kostopoulos.

Aerobic Activities, EDFS 1101-101, in the University's new Kinesiology facility, will be offered on Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 9-9:50 a.m.

Registration for the Fall Semester is Aug. 26-27 from 1-7 p.m. daily. Classes begin Aug. 31.
