State Board Accredits A&M International Educator Preparation

The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in Austin has provided its approval of accreditation status for Texas A&M International University's Superintendency Program.

The accreditation status is based on student performance on ExCET tests showing a cumulative pass rate of 87% and a first time pass rate of 69%.

Dr. Rosa Maria Vida, dean of the College of Education, said the College has worked diligently to insure superior student preparation as indicated by ExCET exam scores and the SBEC's resulting accreditation.

"Our superintendency program is a relatively new addition to our College and we have worked aggressively to prepare our students for the rigorous ExCET examination. Our faculty and students are extremely committed to this program and students' dedication to the task before them has helped them to rise to this challenge," Dr. Vida explained.

The Superintendency Program prepares select qualified educators with considerable administrative experience for roles as school superintendents.

Entry to the program is limited and competitive.

After screening and approval another group of students will begin the program this Fall. Program criteria include having five years of teaching experience, 3 years of school administration or central office experience, full admission to graduate school at A&M International and approval of the Selection Committee.
