A Texas A&M International University graduate student has received a national recognition through a scholarship aimed at enhancing student understanding of the logistics management field.

Batuk R. Bista, a 29-year-old student pursuing a master's degree in logistics, has received a $1,500 scholarship for one year of full-time study from the Council of Logistics Management (CLM).

Bista, a native of Katmandu, Nepal, was one of 27 graduate students nationwide receiving the scholarship this year. In addition to the scholarship, Bista has been invited to attend CLM's 1998 annual conference, which will take place Oct. 11-14 in Anaheim, Calif.

Bista said he chose to study logistics because it is one of the growing sectors in business and also because he saw an opportunity to advance in such a career.

"What I believe is that the fact that I have received this scholarship will help boost the logistics program at the University in the years to come. I would like to thank the Council of Logistic Management and the professors who helped me get into this process," Bista said.

Dr. James R. Giermanski, professor of management, said Bista is an example to follow.

"Batuk demonstrates the character and quality of students coming to our university from all over the world to study transportation and logistics," he said.

Bista said he wishes to pursue a doctoral degree in logistics once he receives his master's degree. He said he is appreciative of College of Business Administration faculty members' efforts.
