Texas A&M International University is still accepting community sponsorships through Sept. 15 for the1998 Dusty Fun Run & Walk, an athletic event aimed at raising additional scholarships for students at A&M International.

Five companies, Central Power and Light, Aguirre Corporation (Dallas), Falcon National Bank, H-E-B Grocery Company and Norwest Bank, have provided sponsorships of $1,000 each in support of the event.

The Dusty Fun Run & Walk is scheduled to take place Nov. 14 at A&M International. Participants can partake in competitive 5K and 10K runs, in addition to a non-competitive two-mile Fun Walk.

A&M International President Dr. Charles Jennett said that community support is essential to student success at A&M International.

"At A&M International, we strive to attract the best and brightest students to our beautiful campus every year. In order to achieve this goal, however, we need to make sure our students have the necessary financial support to pursue their academic endeavors. I am sure that together with our community partners and through events such as the Dusty Fun Run & Walk, we can make this happen," Dr. Jennett said.

Michelle Alexander, vice president for Advancement and External Affairs, concurred that community partnerships are crucial for A&M International's success in the 21st Century.

"A&M International has been the fortunate recipient of the kind assistance from the State of Texas. We know, however, that we cannot rely on this help alone. We must continue to actively seek community partners who are ready to invest in the future of our youth. The Dusty Fun Run & Walk is such an effort, and we encourage more businesses to come forward and support the event and student scholarships," Alexander said.
