García Elected as President of State Association

Texas A&M International University Vice President for Finance and Administration José García has been elected president of the Texas Association of State Senior College and University Business Officers at the organization's annual workshop held recently in Corpus Christi.

García's term as the organization's president was effective Sept. 1 and he will serve until Aug. 31, 2000. The organization is dedicated to the advancement of higher education and the professional advancement of financial and business functions that exist in state-supported senior colleges and universities in Texas.

García, who was selected as the vice president for finance and administration of A&M International in Sept. 1991, has held a number of key positions at the University since he joined Laredo State University in 1980. He most recently served as interim president from Jan. 1996 to July 1996 and vice president for business and support services from Sept. 1988 to Sept. 1991. He has also served as business manager/chief fiscal officer and director of physical plant. He served in the U.S. Army in numerous staff and command positions rising from the grade of Private to Major during a 22-year career.

García holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Columbus State University. He has also participated in the Governor's Executive Program at the University of Texas and attended the LBJ School of Public Affairs there.
