University's Women's & Gender Studies Names Coordinators
Two Texas A&M International University faculty members have been named new co-coordinators of the Women's and Gender Studies Minor Program at A&M International.
Program co-coordinators are Dr. Kathleen R. Pletsch de García, assistant professor of English and Spanish, and Dr. Carol Waters, assistant professor of Political Science.
Both Drs. Pletsch de García and Waters have been active in the program since its inception at the University three years ago. Dr. Waters organized the University's first annual Women's History Month Poster Demonstration and Dr. Pletsch de García has presented talks on gender and communication.
Among the activities planned this year to promote the program are a monthly lecture series, the Primavera conference, and the second annual Women's History Month Poster Demonstration.
The Women's and Gender Studies Minor Program at A&M International provides students with an opportunity to examine the experiences of both women and men from an interdisciplinary perspective. Courses within the minor consider such topics as biology and gender construction, the role of gender in identity formation and socialization, gender and communication, representations of gender in literature and art, and women's changing political and social roles.
A guide detailing the program is available from the University's College of Arts and Humanities.
