A&M International Students May Sign Up for Career Fair Trips

Texas A&M International University's Office of Career Planning and Placement is sponsoring trips to career fairs throughout the state for A&M International students who wish to explore exciting career opportunities.

Viky Garcia, director of Career Planning and Placement at A&M International, said career fairs are one of the best ways to network and explore careers.

"Career fairs offer a professional but relaxed environment in which students can interact with employers who are hiring for permanent and internship positions. The setting is less stressful than a typical job interview.," Garcia explained.

A&M International students may sign up for the following trips sponsored by Career Planning and Placement:

The Law School Admissions Council's Law School Forum, Dallas, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 - 10. The Forum will feature representatives from numerous law schools and will include workshops for students interested in law. Hotel, meals, and transportation costs have been subsidized by the Law School Admissions Council and will be free for A&M International students who sign up for the trip through Career Planning and Placement.

The Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi Job Fair, Corpus Christi, Tuesday, Oct. 13. To sign up for the trip, students must leave a $10 deposit which will be refunded the day of the Fair. Space is limited to the first 10 students who sign up.

The Texas A&M University--Kingsville Job Fair, Kingsville, Wednesday, Oct. 14. A $10 deposit is requested to guarantee a seat. The deposit will be refunded the day of the Fair. Space is limited to the first 10 students who sign up.

The Fort Worth Independent School District Preview Weekend, Fort Worth, tentatively scheduled for Friday and Saturday, November 13 - 14. The Preview will provide students with an opportunity to interact with current teachers, school district administrators, and city officials to learn more about Fort Worth, FWISD and all it has to offer. The trip targets education majors but is open to all majors. FWISD will charter a bus and provide housing for A&M International students.

The San Antonio Colleges and Universities Placement Association Job Fair, San Antonio, Thursday, Nov. 19. A $10 deposit is requested to guarantee a seat. The deposit will be refunded the day of the Fair. Space is limited to the first 10 students who sign up.

A&M International students may sign up for the trips in the Office of Career Planning and Placement, located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library room 157. Interested students should sign up as soon as possible since seating is being reserved on a first-come basis.

A&M International students who participate in the trips will depart from the A&M International campus at 7 a.m. on April 16 and return to Laredo in the evening. Trip participants are expected to wear business attire and have multiple copies of their resume with them.

A&M International students who need more information should contact the University's Office of Career Planning and Placement at 326-2260. Their office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday and 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
