University Offers Computerized GRE, GMAT, TOEFL Exams

Texas A&M International University is now a testing site for computer-based GRE, GMAT and International TOEFL exams.

The computer-based exams will be offered at the University on Nov. 18 and 19. The GRE (Graduate Record Exam) and GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) are used by universities to determine eligibility for admission into graduate school. The International TOEFL is for international students who wish to apply for admission to A&M International or other universities or who need the exam for Visa or residency purposes.

Zulema Marroquin, associate director of the University's Testing Center, said the computer-based exams offer a number of advantages.

"Computer-based exams offer immediate scoring because as soon as a student completes the exam, he or she can view unofficial scores on the computer screen. Official scores are mailed within one to two weeks," Marroquin explained.

Paper-based exams are mailed within four weeks, and immediate scoring is not available.

Marroquin also noted that paper-based GRE, GMAT and TOEFL exams are being phased out.

"The GMAT and TOEFL are no longer offered as paper-pencil exams, however A&M International currently offers a paper-based GRE," she noted.

Students who wish to register for the computer-based GRE, GMAT and International TOEFL exams must sign up through a toll-free number before Nov. 13.

To register for the GRE, students must call 1-800-GRE-CALL. Registration fee for the exam is $96. A limited number of GRE fee waivers are available from the University's Testing Center for qualified students.

To register for the GMAT, students must call 1-800-GMAT-NOW. Registration fee is $125.

To register for the TOEFL, students must call 1-800-GO-TOEFL. Registration fee for the exam is $100.
