Janet Eager Krueger, assistant professor of art at Texas A&M International University, has been invited to address the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities Meeting (PCAH) in San Antonio Oct. 29-30.

Krueger has been asked to relate her experiences as a working and teaching artist and will offer a retrospective of her work and how it is shaped by her audience.

"I'm honored to have been selected to represent my experience as a working and teaching artist and look forward to sharing with the committee my unique perspective as a transplanted suburbanite in rural South Texas. My presentation to the Committee will focus on the special problems of funding and providing vibrant, on-going experiences in the arts and humanities to children living in isolated rural areas of South Texas," Krueger explained.

Krueger joined the University's College of Arts and Humanities faculty this fall. She holds her MFA in Painting from the University of Texas at San Antonio and her BFA in Art History from UT-Austin. Her work experience has included service as an artist-in-residence in College Station, Encinal and San Ygnacio. She also served on the Laredo Community College faculty. Much of her art work has documented life as it has evolved at her ranch home in Encinal.

This is the first time the PCAH has ever met in Texas. It will conduct the majority of its two-day session at the Institute of Texan Cultures at 801 South Bowie Street.

Meeting topics will include "Cultural Tourism" and "Business and the Arts and the Humanities." A plenary session will include reports on programs including Arts Advantage and the "Coming Up Taller Awards, " an annual awards program recognizing outstanding arts and humanities programs currently fostering the creative and intellectual development of America's young people through education and practical experience in the arts and the humanities.

A concluding Public Forum for members of the Committee and the San Antonio community-at-large will be held at Trinity University's Laurie Auditorium.

The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities was created by Presidential Executive Order in 1982 to encourage private sector support and to increase public appreciation of the value of the arts and the humanities through projects, publications, and meetings.

Appointed by the President, the Committee comprises leading citizens from the private sector who have an interest in and commitment to the humanities and the arts. Its members also include the heads of 13 federal agencies with cultural programs, such as the National Endowments for the Arts and the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Department of Education, the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, the National Gallery of Art and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton is Honorary Chair.
