University Offers Free Seminar on Year 2000 Computer Bug Oct. 22

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will offer a free seminar titled "Y2K: The Year 2000 Millennium Bug" on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 2 - 5 p.m. at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard, in Bullock Hall room 118.

The seminar will focus on the Year 2000 rollover problems facing businesses and computer users whose computers and software systems record the year using only the last two digit.

Possible effects if computers cannot read the year 2000 will be described, and an explanation will be offered on how this could disrupt the workplace, services, and computer equipment.

Seminar presentations include "Origins of Y2K," "Where Will You Find It and What Do You Do About It," "Contingency Planning Efforts," and "Resources to Visit on the Internet."

Featured presenters will be Mike Wallace, Y2K project manager for Micron Electronics, and James Vineyard, Business Analyst, Serviceability Management.

Wallace has over 16 years of computer experience. He has been with Micron companies for 12 years and has been with the Micron Electronics Y2K project team since February 1998. He first began dealing with Y2K issues in 1985 as a software developer. Wallace holds an MS in Management and BS in Math/Computer Science.

Vineyard is a Microsoft Certified Professional with over 10 years of computer experience. He is currently the Year 2000 Coordinator for customer and vendor inquiries and the Y2K Business Unit Leader for Micron's entire Service and Support organization. He maintains Y2K contact information, web site content, and compliance data for all Micron products.

The seminar is co-sponsored by Texas A&M International University and Falcon National Bank.
