A&M International Students Participate in Computer Information Competition

Texas A&M International University students majoring in computer-based information systems (CIS) recently competed against similar students in a programming contest held in San Antonio by the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).

The 19 students of the College of Business Administration's Student Systems Group (SSG) competed against students from more than 20 other universities including Our Lady of the Lake University, University of Texas at Arlington, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Tarleton State University, University of Mississippi, University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio College, Oklahoma State University, Baylor University, and other institutions in the states of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

The contest consisted of three competitions, COBOL, Visual BASIC and C/C++. In each, students were given a problem that required the development of a program that solved problems dealing with file handling, variable manipulations, array management, data management, and a variety of logical structures.

Students participating in the competitions included Sylvia Jean García, Ricardo Ramírez, José Luján, Noel Ruíz, Sathish Kumar TK, Anand Verma, Ana Alfaro, Heleodoro Lozano, Patrick Allred, Ricardo Ramírez, Gabriela Alonzo, Verónica Garza, Jesús Cano, Raúl Sánchez, Hugo Luís García, Gene Gutiérrez, Nadia M. Plascencia, Marjorie Rodetis and Mike Canto.

While in San Antonio, the students, who were accompanied by Associate Professor of Information Systems Dr. Stephen Lunce and SSG advisor Jesús Carmona, toured one of the city's major insurance firms, U.S.A.A.

The AITP is a professional organization that provides support for those in the information systems profession.
