University Offers AP Workshops for Educators Nov. 13, 14

Texas A&M International University will offer two Advanced Placement (AP) workshops for educators Nov. 13 and 14 at the University.

"Advanced Placement-Administrators" will be held on Friday, November 13 from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Pellegrino Hall room 204. Tuition is $75. Lunch is included.

Topics to be covered include Organizing Vertical Teams; AP vs. Honors vs Gifted and Talented vs. Concurrent Enrollment; Curriculum--the Who, Where, How, When; Choosing Teachers; Block Schedule; and Motivating Students.

Instructor will be W.C. Smith, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District, Baytown, Texas.

"AP/Pre AP Studio Art" will be held in Canseco Hall room 203 on Friday, Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The workshop is geared for both high school and middle school art instructors.

Tuition is $150 and includes materials and lunch for both days. Participants who complete the workshop will receive 1.2 CED Units.

Topics for this hands-on workshop include Setting Goals Ahead of Time; Review of the AP Studio Art Program; Vertical Team Work Sheet; Hands-On Techniques; Bridging the Gap-Junior High to High School; Administrative Support; More AP/College Board; and Student Portfolios.

Instructors will be Karen Edwards, Fine Arts Chair at Robert E. Lee High School, Goose Creek Consolidated ISD, and Cheryl Evans, Instructor at Ross S. Sterling High School, Goose Creek Consolidated ISD.

Educators may register for either workshop by visiting the University's Office of Continuing Education located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 332.
