A&M International to Offer Conversational ESL Courses

Texas A&M International University is now offering full-semester English as a Second Language (ESL) Conversational courses through the University's International Language Institute.

Conversational ESL courses will be offered Monday - Thursday afternoons, 1:30 - 2:45 p.m., from Jan. 19 - May 14. Three course levels, Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced, will be offered. Cost for each Conversational ESL course is $450. Maximum class size is 12 students.

Additionally, Spring sessions of the International Language Institute's popular Intensive and Semi-Intensive ESL courses will begin Jan. 19.

Intensive ESL courses will be offered weekday mornings, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., from Jan. 19 - Mar. 12.

Semi-intensive ESL courses will be offered Monday - Thursday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m., from Jan. 19 - May 14.

Intensive and semi-intensive ESL courses consist of 160 classroom hours plus additional work in a multimedia lab. Instruction is focused on four skill areas: grammar, reading, writing, and listening and speaking. Six course levels, for beginning to advanced students, will be offered.

Beginning Level courses, ESL 101 and ESL 102, are designed for individuals who have no knowledge or very limited proficiency in the language.

Intermediate Level courses, ESL 103 and ESL 104, are designed for individuals who have limited or some proficiency in the language.

Advanced Level courses, ESL 105 and ESL 106, are designed for individuals who have some proficiency in the language, but need further preparation for academic and professional work.

Tuition for Intensive or Semi-Intensive ESL courses is $750 per course. Maximum class size is 12 students.

Registration for ESL courses will be conducted Jan. 4 - 16 at ILI offices located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, suite 214.
