University's Language Institute Adds New Course in Japanese

Texas A&M International University's International Language Institute (ILI) will offer a new course this Spring: Beginning Japanese.

Lisa Flores, ILI Associate Director, said the course was added to the ILI schedule due to student interest.

"With more and more people doing business with or traveling to Japan, we think this will be a popular course," explained Flores.

She noted that the course is designed for both the general public and business people who might have contact with the Japanese language. It is a basic course which emphasizes listening, speaking, and grammar skills.

The Beginning Japanese course will be held at the University on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m., from Jan. 19 - May 14.

Course fee is $375.

The ILI will also offer the following foreign language courses Jan. 19 - May 14:

Beginning French (French Level I), Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Conversational French--Advanced, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Beginning Spanish (Spanish Level I), Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Intermediate Spanish (Spanish Level II), Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Spanish Business Writing, Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Additionally, new sessions of the ILI's Intensive and semi-intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) courses will begin Jan. 19.

Intensive ESL courses will be offered weekday mornings, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., from Jan. 19 - Mar. 12. Semi-intensive ESL courses will be offered Monday - Thursday evenings, 7:30 - 10 p.m., from Jan. 19 - May 14. Six course levels, for beginning to advanced students, will be offered.

Registration for ILI courses may be completed at ILI offices located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, suite 214. Class size is limited to 12 students.
