Free Workshop for Business Persons Slated at University Tues., Mar. 23

Business persons who need information on demographics, statistics, commerce, and industry trends can learn how to conduct research by attending a free mini-workshop on "Business and Demographics Databases" at Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Tuesday, Mar. 23 at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The mini-workshop is free and open to the public. Registration is not required to attend.

Reference librarian Donna Goda explained the mini-workshop will be an introduction to researching using the state-of-the-art technology available in the Killam Library such as the Internet, online resources, and electronic databases.

"The Killam Library has over 6,000 electronic periodicals plus full text and indexing databases. The mini-workshop will provide instruction on using some of the best resources for business professionals including the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica Geografia e Informatica (INEGI), which provides geographic, demographic and economic information of Mexico, STAT-USA, which provides economic, business, and international trade information produced by the US Government, and Statistical Universe, which is a comprehensive and fully indexed online source for federal statistics," Goda said.

She noted that the exact content of the mini-workshop will be tailored to meet the needs and research experience of workshop participants.

The Killam Library will also hold a mini-workshop on "International Relations Databases" Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m.

Also scheduled in March and April are mini-workshops on "Searching the Online Book Catalog," "Full-Text Journal Databases," "Research on the Internet," and "Evaluating Web Information Sources." Please call the Killam Library Reference Desk at 326-2138 for specific dates and times. All mini-workshops are free and open to the public.
