A&M International Offers Free Career Presentations Mar. 8 - 12

Texas A&M International University's Office of Career Planning and Placement will hold a series of free presentations Mar. 8 - 12 to help students, alumni, and community members prepare for the upcoming "Global Opportunities '99" Career and Teacher Fair.

The presentations are open to the public, free of charge, and require no advance reservation. The schedule is as follows:

"Fortune Fun: Global Opportunities '99 Awareness," Monday, Mar. 8 and Thursday, Mar. 11, 12 - 2 p.m. in front of Building C. Participants can glimpse into the future as they learn what Global Opportunities '99 will have to offer.

"How to Prepare for a Job Fair," Tuesday, Mar. 9, 2 p.m. in Killam Library, room 157. This short video presentation will offer tips for career fair participants including how to research a company, what questions to ask potential employers, and dressing for success.

"Relocating for a New Job," Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Pellegrino Hall 115. The workshop will address relocating issues including making moving arrangements, finding new schools and financial institution, home sickness, and adjustment in general. Guest presenter will be Rita Leos, Career Development Specialist with Parkland Hospital Systems in Dallas.

"Salary Negotiation Workshop," Friday, Mar. 12, 2 p.m. in Killam Library, room 157. The workshop will explain the salary negotiation process and offer helpful advice for both the novice and experienced career professionals.

"Global Opportunities '99," a free career and teacher fair, will be held at the University on Thursday, Mar. 25 from 2 - 5 p.m. in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building. Over 100 representatives from local, regional, and national employers will participate in the free event, which provides a forum for meeting with prospective employers, learning information about possible employment opportunities, and receiving advice on career planning.
