A&M International's Jennett Receives of UNM's Rodney Award

Texas A&M International University president Dr. Charles Jennett was presented with the University of New Mexico Alumni Association's Bernard S. Rodney Award at a recent reception in Albuquerque.

The Rodney Award recipient is chosen by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association and is presented to an individual identified as having devoted an unusual amount of time to leadership and efforts that have contributed significantly to the field of higher education.

Jennett received his BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from Southern Methodist University and his PhD in water resources and environmental engineering from UNM. He is a registered professional engineer in Missouri, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico.

He is also a diplomate in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and a fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers. He serves on the supervisory board of the Chicago Bridge and Iron Corporation, an international engineering and construction firm.

Jennett's engineering career has taken him from the tunnels of the Oroville Dam, the largest in North America, to cities worldwide.

Likewise, his academic career has taken him from the midlands of the University of Missouri-Rolla (as associate professor of engineering) to the hinterlands of Syracuse University (as professor and department chair) to the colonial south of Clemson University (as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs) and to the US-Mexico borderlands as president of Texas A&M International University since 1996.

He is a widely published scholar and researcher in several areas of environmental engineering, ranging from industrial waste treatment systems to global environmental ethics.

Locally, he is involved with the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, Laredo Manufacturers' Association, the Webb County Heritage Foundation, and the Webb County Archeological Society.
