Dr. John Kohl Selected as New A&M International Business Dean

Dr. John P. Kohl has been appointed Texas A&M International University's dean of the College of Business Administration, announced University provost and vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Ray Keck.

"After an exhaustive nation-wide search, we are delighted to announce Dr. Kohl's selection as dean. We are looking forward to the continued growth of the College of Business Administration and Graduate School of International Trade and Business Administration and believe Dr. Kohl will be a pivotal force in the College's forward momentum," Dr. Keck said.

University president Dr. Charles Jennett confirmed Dr. Kohl's selection and concurred with Keck's appraisal.

"Like all of our Colleges, the College of Business Administration is highly involved in critical teaching, research and public service initiatives. Dr. Kohl's remarkable range of academic experience, research and his tradition of community service will serve the University well as we ready to enter our 30th year of providing higher education to our city, region and beyond. We congratulate him and look forward to hhis leadership in securing American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation, launching our first Ph.D. in business, expanding our course inventory and working with our colleges in cross-disciplinary initiatives," Dr. Jennett said.

Kohl will meet A&M International College of Business faculty this weekend as part of the College's retreat hosted by Sue and Radcliffe Killam at their ranch, Vallecillo. The Killams have hosted all four College retreats at Vallecillo.

Kohl will move to Laredo over the summer and begin his duties for the Fall Semester.

He is chair of the department of management in the College of Business at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV), a position he has held since 1988.

In addition to his Ph.D. in Business Administration from The Pennsylvania State University, Kohl holds an M.S. in Counseling and an M.S. in Management Science from the University of Central Texas, a Master of Divinity in Theology from Yale University and a BA in English from Moravian College.

Kohl's primary fields of research include organizational behavior and personnel management with supporting fields in social research methods and counselor education.

Prior to joining UNLV, Kohl was a faculty member at San Jose State University, the University of Texas at El Paso and The Pennsylvania State University. He has also been a chaplain in the United States Army and a minister for the United Church of Christ.

With Paul S. Greenlaw, he is co-author of Personnel Management: Managing Human Resources (New York: Harper and Rowe) and its accompanying Instructor's Manual.

He is the author or co-author of over 80 publications in numerous professional and academic journals and numerous contributions to conference proceedings or professional papers.

He is a member of the US Army reserves since 1978 and currently holds the rank of Colonel. In addition to research and community service, his consulting activities have focused on issues of employment including compensation, discrimination and harassment.

Among his awards, honors or memberships are the 1990 and 1997 UNLV Distinguished Researcher Award; "Who's Who in the South and Southwest," 1975, 1977 and 1985 and "Outstanding Young Men of America," 1971, 1975 and 1979.

He is a member of The Academy of Management and the International Personnel Management Association.

His military awards include Meritorious Services Medals (First, Second and Third Oak Leaf Clusters) the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal with Service Star.
