A&M International Reschedules International Logistics Conference/Exhibition

The logistics conference "High Technology in International Logistics" originally scheduled for April 22-24 at Texas A&M International University, has been rescheduled for June 3-5, organizers said.

The event is being organized by the Global Federation of Electronic Commerce Associations, a student organization comprised of the Electronic Commerce Associations of both A&M International and the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (Nuevo Laredo).

It is designed to brief participants on the latest technology and services available in international logistics and will feature 25 speakers from a cross section of the logistics industry providing information on advances in technology, logistics financing and new regulations.

Scheduled to take place in Bullock Hall 101, the conference is the first of its kind to be organized in Laredo by these student organizations in an effort to raise students' awareness of electronic commerce.

Conference hours will be from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. June 3 and 4 and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. June 5. A reception is also scheduled for June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

Dr. George Kostopoulos, faculty sponsor of the Electronic Commerce Association (ECA), explained that aspects of logistics include transportation, customs, freight forwarding, warehousing and technology.

"These are exactly the things that Laredo is, a major logistics center. We want the conference to be the focal point for all related activities in Los Dos Laredos," said Kostopoulos, adding that approximately 200 people are expected to attend the event.

An exhibition featuring the services and products offered by companies and organizations in international logistics will also be part of the conference and will take place at the Kinesiology/Convocation Building 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. June 3 and 4 and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. June 5.

"The conference will provide an ideal opportunity for those in logistics to become aware of the latest in software, hardware and services available," Kostopoulos said, "Naturally, new technology increases productivity and companies that implement these changes will be more competitive."

Registration fees are $100 per person for the conference and $300 for exhibitors.
