Over 40 Texas A&M International University students, faculty and administrators travelled to San Antonio earlier this month to participate in a two-day conference on higher education presented by The Texas A&M University System.

"Higher Education in a New Century: What Texas Teachers, Counselors and Administrators Must Know" was presented at the San Antonio Airport Hilton and included participants from all 10 A&M System campuses and eight agencies.

The Conference was designed to share primary information on higher education and its delivery in the next century with Texas teachers, counselors and administrators. A number of high school counselors from Laredo and the surrounding area joined their statewide peers at the event.

Concurrent sessions offered information on admissions, financial aid, career paths, expected salaries, trends and student expectations.

Among the A&M International students participating in the event were members of the popular Ballet Folklorico, who performed traditional dances with the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Mariachi Javelina providing music.

The Conference was presented as part of the "Partnership for Texas Public Schools," a collaborative venture between The Texas A&M University System and the Texas Education Agency, that supports activities between A&M System institutions and school district partners focused on educator preparation.

The Conference was co-sponsored by HEB, Southwestern Bell, Mejia Engineering of Laredo, Frost Bank, Kell, Muñoz and Wigodsky, Inc., Wade Construction and Bartlett Cocke, General Contractors.
