Texas A&M International University's chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society will initiate seven members to its organization at a ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 7 at 4 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

Alpha Kappa Delta, which has over 430 chapters worldwide, seeks to encourage social research for the purpose of service.

A&M International was awarded its chapter on 1997. Since then, the membership has grown to 10, said A&M International's AKD president Verónica Martínez.

"It's important to have a fraternity of people that share your same ideas in the discipline of sociology," said Martínez about AKD. "Being in this organization is a way of learning from each other and keeping in touch with each other."

Martínez said both students and faculty members can obtain a membership to AKD.

The new initiates this year include Dagoberto Carmona, Lisa Lamar González, Angélica Hernández, Tonya Leigh-Nathaniel, Laura Esther Peña, Clifford M. Black, and Maria Griselda Alcantar.

For further information, please call Martínez at 326-2322. University office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
