College Scholar of the Year recipients are Dr. Xiaoming Zhang, Assistant Professor of History; Dr. Jacqueline R. Mayfield, Assistant Professor of Management and Business Communications; and Dr. Cathy Sakta, Associate Professor of Education.

Dr. Zhang, Scholar of the Year for the College of Arts and Humanities, holds a B.A. from Naijing Teachers University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Mayfield, Scholar of the Year for the College of Business Administration, holds a B.A. and M.B.A. from George Washington University, an M.A.T. from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Sakta, Scholar of the Year for the College of Education, holds a B.A. from Our Lady of the Lake University, and an M.Ed. and Ed.D. from Northwestern State University.

The College Scholar of the Year recipients were selected by a College Selection Committee appointed by the Dean of the College. Selections were based on the candidate's teaching, scholarship, and service.

One of the three College Scholars will be selected for the University Scholar of the Year Award. A selection committee chaired by Dr. Ray Keck, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, will select the recipient and the award will be conferred during Spring Commencement. The University Scholar of the Year recipient will receive a medallion that will be worn as part of the recipient's academic regalia, a small stipend, and a designated reserved parking space for one year.

The College Scholar of the Year Award and University Scholar of the Year Award were developed by the University's faculty organization, the Faculty Senate, to annually recognize outstanding professionalism among the members of the University faculty.
