Hinojosa Appointed College of Science & Technology Dean at Texas A&M International University

Texas A&M International University associate professor of physics Dr. Juan Homero Hinojosa has been appointed Dean of the College of Science and Technology, subject to approval by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

Provost and vice president for academic affairs Dr. Ray Keck announced the appointment.

"It gives me great pleasure to announce Dr. Hinojosa's appointment after an exhaustive 10-month national search. Dr. Hinojosa is an invaluable source of ideas, energy, and vision for science education in South Texas, and we look forward to his leadership in this dynamic college," Dr. Keck said.

Hinojosa grew up in Nuevo Laredo and Eagle Pass. He holds a Ph.D. In Geophysics from The Johns Hopkins University. His M.A. in Geophysics was also earned at Johns Hopkins. His Sc.B.in Physics/Mathematics was received at Brown University.

Hinojosa joined the university faculty in 1991. Prior to A&M International, he taught at The University of Texas at El Paso, Johns Hopkins and Towson State University in Maryland.

His research interests include solid earth and planetary geophysics, numerical modeling and computational techniques, large-scale tectonic relationships and technology in science teaching.

He has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Geophysical Research and Geophysics and for NASA and National Science Foundation grant proposals.

Among research he has conducted has been a project funded by NASA that provided analysis and modeling of Venus gravity and topography data from the Magellan Mission. He recently received funding from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to equip a geophysics laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment and software for the production and analysis of digital data.

He is a member of the American Geophysical Union, The American Physical Society, and Sigma Xi , The Scientific Research Society.
