A&M International Prof's Art Selected for National Exhibition

A monotype by Texas A&M International University assistant professor of art Janet Krueger has been selected as part a national exhibit.

"Swimmer Rising" was accepted to the Texas National '99 exhibition at the Stephen F. Austin Gallery at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Selection for the Texas National '99 is competitive and open to professional artists residing in the United States. Approximately 500 artists entered the competition with 105 artists from 28 states selected for the 125-piece show. An illustrated catalogue of the exhibit including Krueger's monotype will be published later this year.

Krueger said she was proud to have her work selected for exhibition.

"It's always a great honor to have your work selected for exhibit, but I feel a special sense of pride and honor with selection to the Texas

National because of the quality of this particular exhibit," she said.

The competition was judged by James McGarrell whose paintings are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C.

Krueger joined the A&M International faculty in 1998. She holds a BFA in Art History from the University of Texas-Austin and an MFA in Painting from UT-San Antonio.

Prior to joining the University she was an instructor at Laredo Community College and an artist in residence for schools in both Encinal and San Ygnacio.

Her personal vision of life in South Texas was a focus of a special exhibit at the Webb County Heritage Foundation's 1997 Ranching Heritage Festival.

Her works have been exhibited at the state capital and are included in the collections of the Kronkosky Foundation, The Laredo National Bank and UTSA. She has an exhibit of her works scheduled this fall at the Laredo Center for the Arts.

At A&M International, Krueger is helping to develop the fine arts curriculum and new degree areas for inclusion in the University's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, part of its Phase III expansion.
