Regent McClure Selected As A&M International Spring Commencement Speaker Saturday

One of our nation's 50 most promising leaders according to Time magazine will provide the Keynote Address for the Spring 1999 Commencement Exercises at Texas A&M International University, Saturday, May 15 at 9 a.m. at the Kinesiology/Convocation Building.

Frederick D. McClure, former assistant to President Bush and special assistant to President Reagan and current member of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, will provide the address for the over 220 graduates, the largest in the University's history.

Highlighting the ceremony will be the recognition of the first graduates of the University's first freshman class and the announcement of the selection of the Faculty Scholar of the Year.

McClure received his bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude. While at A&M, He served as student body president, was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and received the Brown-Rudder Outstanding Student Award. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Baylor University School of Law where he was elected president of the Student Bar Association and was a member of the National Order of Barristers.

He serves on the boards of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, the 12th Man Foundation, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the State Fair of Texas, Children's Health Services of Texas and Alex Lee, Inc. He is chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association.

His great affection for and commitment to The Texas A&M University System continues with his 1995 appointment to the Board of Regents by Governor George W. Bush. He is chairman of the Board's Committee on Audit and the Committee to Develop Criteria for Future System Expansion and is a member of the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs and the Legislative Committee.

McClure is also the Board's liaison to the Prairie View A&M University Development Foundation and the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students. He also serves on the Heep Foundation Board of Directors and on the Executive Committee of the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum.

Called one of America's 50 most promising leaders by Time Magazine, he is listed in Who's Who in Government.

In his professional life, he is managing director of Public Strategies Inc., with offices in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, San Francisco, Calif. and Mexico City.
