A&M International Faculty Member Appointed to State Health Committee

Natalie Burkhalter, assistant professor of nursing at Texas A&M International University's Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing, has been named to an ad hoc committee of the Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council (SHCC).

The SHCC is responsible for health workforce planning for the State of Texas. The 1999-2004 Texas State Health Plan, which was developed by the SHCC, lays the groundwork for ongoing health workforce assessment and planning.

The ad hoc committee will work in partnership with interested parties to develop and test curricula that enhance the skills of health professionals and increase their effectiveness working with the community.

The committee is chaired by Judy Petty Wolf, a member of the SHCC and staffed by Donna Nichols, director of Public Health Promotion, Texas Department of Health.

Burkhalter holds an A.A.S. from Laredo Junior College, B.S. from Corpus Christi State University, and M.S. from Incarnate Word College. She also holds Post Master's Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Midwestern State University.
