Cactus Pear Music Festival At University Thursday, July 8

Classical music fans will have special reason to celebrate this Thursday, July 8.

That's when the joy of chamber music will fill the halls at Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Great Room with the return of the Cactus Pear Music Festival at 7:30 p.m.

The Festival is a celebration of top-notch and inspiring chamber music performed by musicians from San Antonio and all across the U.S.

Admission will be $15 per person, $12 for groups of 10 or more and $7 per student. Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra subscribers pay a special price of $7. Tickets will be available at the door or by mail from CPMF, 403 Stone Wood, San Antonio, Tx. 78216-1625.

Artistic Director Stephanie Sant'Ambrogio, Concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony, first brought the Festival to Laredo last year.

The evening's program will include Bach's Sonata in E Minor, BWV 1034 for Flute, Cello and Harpsichord; White's The Nymph's Complaint for the Death of Her Fawn, A Poem for Oboe, Viola and Piano; Shoenfield's Trio in Three Movements for Clarinet, Violin and Piano; De Falla's Concerto for Harpsichord, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Violin and Cello and Bartok's Contrast for Piano, Violin and Clarinet.

Artists scheduled to perform include clarinetist Paul Cigan; pianist Jeffrey Sykes; flutist Stephanie Jutt; harpsichordist Christina Edelen; cellist Fred Edelen; oboist Mark Ackerman and violist Ted Allred.

The Laredo program is one of 10 performances during the two-week festival which also takes the musicians to San Antonio, Austin and Kerrville.
