A&M International To Hold Ethics Workshop Mon., Sept. 13

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will hold a four-hour workshop on "Ethics in Public Service" Monday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. - 12 noon in Bullock Hall room 101 on the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Cecilia Garza, chair of the University's Department of Psychology and Sociology and assistant professor of Sociology.

Tuition is $35.

The workshop is geared for human service workers, case managers, counselors, social workers, home health aides, medical social workers, community service aides, eligibility technicians, social activity coordinators, and other professionals.

Participants who complete the workshop will receive a certificate. Counselors and social workers who complete the workshop will be eligible for .4 Continuing Education Units (CEU's) or 4 clock hours.

The workshop will summarize professional standards and guidelines for individuals who work with the public. Topics to be covered include professionalism; conduct, integrity, fairness, respect, and courtesy; competence and professional development; ethical responsibility to clients; confidentiality; fees and payments; accountability; clients' right to self-determination; relationships with peers and other professionals; and service and research.
