A&M International Recognizes Outstanding Employees

Texas A&M International University employees Elizabeth L. Martinez, Gabriela Mendoza, and Dr. Xiaoming Zhang have been named recipients of the University's Outstanding Employee Service Award for 1998-1999.

A&M International President Dr. Charles Jennett praised the three for their exemplary service and support to the University.

Elizabeth Martinez, named Outstanding Classified Employee, is a Staff Assistant in the University's Dr. F.M. Canseco School of Nursing. She joined the University in 1997 as a staff assistant for the University's Department of Language, Literature, and Arts and assumed her current position in May. Martinez previously worked for the University from 1994-96.

Gabriela Mendoza, Outstanding Administrative Employee, is Associate Director of Student Development. She has held that position since joining the University in 1995. A former professional dancer, Mendoza is Dance Director of the University's Ballet Folklorico group. She also teaches children's ballet folklorico classes through the University's Continuing Education Department.

Dr. Xiaoming Zhang, University Scholar of the Year, is Assistant Professor of History. He joined the faculty of A&M International in 1996. A native of Nanjing, China, Zhang specializes in the areas of Chinese history, Sino-American relations, modern US political science and US foreign relations.

Martinez, Mendoza, and Zhang each received a commemorative plaque, a monetary award, and an honorary designated parking space for one year. Dr. Zhang also received a medallion that will be worn as part of his academic regalia.
