Student members of the Political Science Association, a Texas A&M International University student organization, will host a public forum to discuss recent happenings in El Cenizo.

Scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 7-9 p.m. in Bullock Hall 101, the event will feature El Cenizo Mayor Rafael Rodriguez, Councilpersons Flora Barton and Gloria Romo and a panel discussion featuring University professors.

Faculty sponsor Dr. William Duncan said the forum is designed to allow students and the public at large an opportunity to discuss what has become a contentious issue with national visibility.

"The mayor of El Cenizo and two city council representatives will offer us their perspective on their recent adoption of Spanish as the preferred language of their governance which has sparked national debate. We've also assembled a panel of University faculty members who will discuss the issue from their area of expertise," he explained.

University panelists will include Dr. Norma Cantu, professor of English, Dr. Roberto R. Heredia, assistant professor of psychology, Dr. Rafael Lecuona, professor of political science and Dr. Carlos Cuellar, assistant professor of history.
