The latest installment of a $250,000 pledge of scholarships has been provided to Texas A&M International University by Time Warner Communications.

The gift is intended to help local and area students complete their higher education goals. The pledge was initiated in 1997 and will continue to provide scholarship support for A&M International students through 2005.

Presenting the $42,000 gift was Esteban Ventura, Time Warner Communications' General Manager. He said the company is committed to supporting higher education here.

"We're a proud part of this community and we're happy to be able to help these students to reach their higher education goals. Time Warner is eager to help insure our community continues to have educated young minds making their careers and homes here," he said.

A&M International president Dr. Charles Jennett said that scholarship support for University students is pivotal to the completion of their degree program.

"Over 85% of our students qualify and receive financial aid, but the need always outstrips the resources available. Corporate assistance like that provided by Time Warner, helps to assure that our classrooms are available to all," Dr. Jennett said.

To date, scholarships have been awarded to 12 students with majors ranging from education to business administration and biology to psychology. Three students have already graduated with assistance provided by the Time Warner Gift.
