Texas A&M International University has announced the appointment of a Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts for its College of Arts and Humanities.

Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor of dance, has been named to the new post by Dean of the College, Dr. Jerry D. Thompson.

"This is the next step in our creation of a full Department of Fine and Performing Arts within the College, and we believe that Ms. Leyendecker will help us to lead our growth and development in this critical arena," Dr. Thompson said.

Leyendecker joined the A&M International faculty in the Fall of 1998. Her appointment as Coordinator is concurrent with her teaching schedule.

A Laredo native, she holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Education from the University of Houston. Prior to joining A&M International, she was a longtime dance instructor at Laredo Community College.

As Coordinator, Leyendecker will help develop the planned Department and direct fine and performing arts activities at the University that are planned as part of the University's new Fine and Performing Arts Building.

Part of the University's Phase III expansion, the Fine and Performing Arts Building is planned for completion in the Fall of 2001. It will feature classrooms, dance and art studios, a band hall, a 950-seat concert hall and a 450-seat theatre.
