Laredo Community College students will now have a convenient one stop shop to explore transfer opportunities to Texas A&M International University.

A&M International will open its Outreach Office in University Hall Room 211 on the LCC campus in ceremonies scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served.

Mary Trevino, acting associate vice president for student services, said the new office is part of a planned outreach provision authorized by the articulation agreement signed by LCC and A&M International last April.

"That articulation agreement, known as '2+2 = One Smart Start,' is aimed at streamlining the transfer procedure between the two campuses and provides for the operation of an outreach office by the University on the LCC campus," Trevino said.

She noted that the advantages of having the Outreach Office located on the LCC campus are numerous and a full array of services will be available to students.

"We're excited about this initiative as it provides LCC students with a convenient location to get admissions information and services, get advised on transfer or degree plans, receive financial aid information and consider career choices," Trevino said.

Trevino said the University is especially pleased with its location in the building which also houses the bulk of LCC student services operations.

"This building is pretty much dedicated to student services and we feel this is a natural traffic area for our Outreach Office. We'll also be linked by internet to our main campus offices and databases so seamless information transfer will also be possible," she explained.

Norma Gonzalez, who has been part of the University's Admissions Office staff for the past two years, will be the Outreach Center's sole staff member.

Trevino said the University will be monitoring the Outreach Center's use by students and adjust services and staffing accordingly.

"LCC has traditionally been a strong source of transfer students to us and we believe it's important to make our operations accessible to potential transfer students," she said.

Trevino noted that returning to the LCC campus is something of a special homecoming as well.

"As many recall, we shared a campus and a home for over 20 years. We're looking forward to visiting with old friends and making new ones," she said.
