Fifth Annual Dusty Fun Run and Walk Names Event Winners

The Fifth Annual "Dusty Fun Run and Walk," a fundraiser that benefits student scholarships at Texas A&M International University, attracted over 180 participants Saturday, Nov. 13 at the University.

Competitive 5 and 10K runs were held, in addition to a non-competitive two-mile Fun Walk.

Best Overall Male 5K went to Benny Rodriguez with a finishing time of 15.39. Best Overall Female 5K was awarded to Trishna Stock, 17:17. Best Overall Male 10K was earned by Efrain Velasquez, 33.09 and Best Overall Female 10K was Elisa A. Gomez, 49.46.

Corporate sponsors of the 1999 Dusty Fun Run and Walk include five-year charter sponsor NBC Bank; Extreme Sponsors: Falcon National Bank, Norwest Bank, Sprint-Sprint PCS and SOL Communications. Iron Man Sponsors: Commerce Bank, and Performance Sponsors: International Bank of Commerce, Laredo National Bank, Dr. Judson Somerville, Dr. Rolando Guerra, Sanchez Oil and Gas, Attorney Eddie Pena and Tacomax.

President Charles Jennett thanked the participants for their support of the event, noting that 85% of A&M International students qualify for financial aid and events like the Dusty Fun Run make a critical difference in student scholarship fund availability.
