A&M International Students May Apply for Udall Scholarship

Texas A&M International University students interested in a career related to the environment or health care are invited to apply for the Morris K. Udall Scholarship, an award of up to $5,000 per year.

The Udall Scholarship awards will be made on the basis of merit to two groups of students: sophomores or juniors in fields related to the environment; and Native American and Alaskan Native sophomores or juniors in fields related to health care or tribal public policy.

Typical majors or areas of study include environmental engineering, agriculture, biology and other natural sciences, natural resource management, political science, sociology, anthropology, geography, cultural studies, history, public policy, and pre-law.

To be considered, a student must be nominated by A&M International or his or her college or university using the official nomination materials.

Nomination materials are available from Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy, Assistant Professor of Biology at A&M International. Interested students may contact Dr. Krishnamurthy by visiting her office located in Canseco Hall, 313J or by calling her at 326-2584.

Nominated students must be a US citizen, resident alien, or US national; be a sophomore or junior pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education; and have a college grade-point average of at least "B" or equivalent.

Deadline for nomination is February 15, 2000, with some 75 scholarships to be awarded in May for use during the next academic year.
