University's Classified Staff Advisory Council Completes First Community Service Project

Texas A&M International University's Classified Staff Advisory Council (CSAC) has taken the holiday spirit of giving to heart.

The Council collected over $500 from members to help purchase new toys for 31 needy children in El Cenizo.

Sara Gutierrez, CSAC president, said the effort was the group's first community service project, and was known as "Hug-A-Toy." She said she was impressed with the support the group received.

"We believe we've had a tremendous success with this, our first effort. At this special time of the year, we wanted to be able to help our University to reach out and help children for whom Christmas isn't always a time of plenty. We hope to make this an annual event and help more children in the future," Gutierrez said.

The CSAC will host a special reception and presentation of gifts to some of the children Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. in the Great Room of the University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.
