A&M International Faculty Member named to THECB Advisory Committee

A Texas A&M International University business faculty member has been invited to serve on an advisory committee assigned to assist the state in developing lower division undergraduate business courses to be honored among publicly-funded two-year and four-year higher education institutions in Texas.

Dr. Michael Landeck, professor of marketing and international business, will be a part of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Advisory Committee to Develop a Field of Study Curriculum for General Business. His term will expire on Sept. 1, 2000.

The field of study curriculum is defined by state statute as a set of courses that satisfy the lower division requirements for a bachelor's degree in a specific academic area at a general academic teaching institution.

The courses within a field of study curriculum must include courses that a student would complete at a lower division in order to be able to enroll in upper-division course work in a particular field after transferring to another institution.

In a letter to Landeck, Texas Commissioner of Higher Education Don Brown stated, "The facilitation of smooth transfer of credit at the lower division level and the encouragement of full access to high-quality undergraduate educational programs are essential for public higher education in Texas."

The Advisory Committee will be comprised of an equal number of representatives from two-year and four-year institutions.

Landeck, who has been a professor of marketing and International Business in Laredo since 1989, with a prior similar position of three years at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, earned his doctoral degree in business administration in 1988 from North Texas State University and his Diplom-Kaufmann in business management in 1974 from the University of Hamburg, West Germany.

Landeck serves as vice president of the A&M International Faculty Senate and as board member of the Academy of International Business. He also serves as chairman of the Academy's Southwest Region. Landeck has more than 20 years of business magerial experience with multinational corporations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the United States.
