A Texas A&M International University faculty member has been named to the editorial board of an international reading journal.

Dr. Cathy Sakta, associate professor of education at the University's College of Education, has been appointed to the editorial board for The Reading Teacher, A Journal of the International Reading Association.

Dr. Sakta was notified of her selection to the Board for the 2000-2001 issue year by editors Priscilla Griffith and Carol Lynch-Brown.

Sakta said she considered the appointment to be an opportunity to serve literacy educators worldwide.

"I'm looking forward to being a part of a journal that has a circulation of over 70,000 readers and dedicates itself to the importance of literacy education. I am greatly honored to accept this appointment and to be able to give something back to my cherished profession," Dr. Sakta explained.

Sakta, a member of the University faculty since 1990, earned her Ed. D. in Reading from Northwestern State University (NSU) in Natchitoches, LA. She also holds an M. Ed. from NSU, and a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry from Our Lady of the Lake University.

In addition to her membership in the International Reading Association, she is a member of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, The Texas Association for Reading Professors, The Texas State Reading Association and Phi Delta Kappa honorary education fraternity.
