Do you have a dance partner but have nowhere to go jigging? Then grab your swingin' shoes and come to the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library at Texas A&M International University for the second "Swingin' at the U" dance concert Sunday, January 16 from 5-7 p.m.

"Swingin' at the U," the third in a continuing series of benefits for the A&M International Music Program, will feature "La Orquesta Internacional," a big band comprised of a number of local music educators and performing professionals.

Admission, payable at the door, is $10 for adults and $5 for all students and supports the A&M International Band Music Program. Refreshments will be served after the concert.

The group, which will play from a broad spectrum of music selections, will remind many of their parents and grandparents with tunes drawn from the golden "big band era."

"La Orquesta Internacional," directed by Dr. Humberto Gonzalez, A&M International assistant professor in the College of Education, combines decades of musical experience of talented local performers.

"We are delighted to perform once again as part of the A&M International's 'at the U' series. Last year's 'Swingin' at the U' found many swirling to the vibrant tunes of saxophones and trombones, and we hope to enjoy the same support this year from those who wish to have fun and contribute to education at the same time," Gonzalez said.

Guest artist and vocalist Norma Eliza will also make a special appearance. A dance floor will be in place for those wishing to cut the rug and step lively.

The University will soon begin construction on a $15 million Fine and Performing arts Center, and events like "Swingin' at the U" will be among those featured and designed to showcase arts and cultural enrichment activities in Laredo.
