A&M International Offers Program for African American History Month

African American History Month will be observed at Texas A&M International University with a special video program and discussion Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. In Bullock Hall 103.

The program is offered by the University's History Club and is free of charge and open to the public.

Dr. Jerry Thompson, dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, will present an hour-long video that focuses on African American soldiers during the Civil War.

Immediately following, he will moderate a discussion.

Thompson, a member of the University faculty since 1987, is one of the country's top scholars on the Southwest Campaign of the American Civil War and Border History.

He is the author of over a dozen books and 30 articles. His most recent publication is A Wild and Vivid Land: An Illustrated History of the South Texas Border. He is at work on two new books.
