New Corporate Partner Provides Support to A&M International Students

Texas A&M International students pursuing degrees in business and international trade have a new corporate partner that promises to help them realize their higher education dreams.

Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C., a local freight forwarding agency serving Laredo for over 10 years, announced the establishment of the Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. Endowed President's Scholarship Fund at A&M International recently.

Annual gift installments of $5,000 over a period of five years, totaling $25,000, will be used to establish the new endowed fund.

A&M International President Dr. Charles Jennett said this gift will brighten the future of students planning to secure a dynamic business career in Laredo, South Texas and beyond.

"Our students understand the important role that international trade and business play in this region of the U.S.-Mexico border and how A&M International can help them become a part of that expanding global market," Jennett said, "This generous gift will serve as another tool students can utilize to climb that ladder to future success."

Jennett encouraged more corporations to join Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. in forming partnerships with A&M International.

"We thank Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. for their kind support and would like to encourage others to join us in our effort to continue helping students advance their future and, thus, that of our community," Jennett said.

Scholarships will be awarded to students attending A&M International beginning Fall 2001. Students selected to receive the Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. President's Scholarship will be known as the Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. Presidential Scholars.

Eduardo A. Garza, chairman of the Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. Board, said Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C. is proud to be able to assist students in their firm quest for a promising future.

"We are honored to be able to contribute to the betterment of higher education in Laredo, South Texas and the world. Students at A&M International are the future leaders of our community and we are truly committed to helping them secure a solid academic preparation today for a brighter tomorrow," Garza said.

Scholarship funds will be used to cover the cost of tuition, books and academic fees of the recipient. The scholarship is renewable provided that the student continues to meet all academic qualifications. Although the scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in business, preferably in international trade, it may be awarded to a top student in the College of Business Administration should there be no qualified recipient majoring in the two disciplines.

Students selected to receive President's Scholarships must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and scores of 1,000 in SAT and or 22 in ACT. Entering freshmen must attach a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member of their high school to their application. If awarded to a continuing or transfer student, the application must be accompanied by a letter or recommendation from a professor who knows the student and can speak to their academic qualifications.
