A&M International Computer Information Students Prepare for National Competition

After marked success during a regional student competition sponsored by the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP), computer information systems students at Texas A&M International University are preparing for a more challenging set of competitions this week.

The 10 students, members of the University's Student Systems Group, will travel to Tampa, Florida to participate in AITP's National Conference and Programming Contest this week.

More than 750 information systems students and faculty members are expected to attend this year's event, which will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions, hands-on computer programming contests, student paper presentations and a job fair.

Students participating include Ana Elisa Alfaro, Benjamin Everett, Paulita Garcia, Karim Garza, Aladdin Hall, Robert Krochmal, Noe Martinez, Maria Luisa Mendez, Noel Ruiz and Hanish Sharma.

Contest categories include those in computer programming languages including VisualBasic, HTML, Systems Analysis and Design and C++.

A&M International student teams are coached by Mr. Jesus Carmona, programming instructor and Dr. Stephen Lunce, associate professor of information systems and SSG faculty sponsor.

A&M International's SSG belongs to the San Antonio Chapter of the AITP.
