Four members of the the Texas A&M International University College of Education faculty will participate in the Texas Teachers Forum in Dallas March 30-April 1.

The A&M International faculty will join faculty members from The Texas A&M University System, and officials from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Texas Education Agency and the State Board for Educator Certification to discuss issues related to the pressing teacher shortage facing Texas public schools.

Representing A&M International will be dean of the College of Education, Dr. Rosa Maria Vida, Dr. Ronald Anderson, induction specialist; Dr. Miroslava Vargas, recruiter and Teresa Hein - director of the Regents Initiative.

The Forum is cosponsored by The Texas A&M University System and the Texas Education Agency, with financial support provided by the Sid W. Richardson Foundation and Scholastic Inc.

Special guests will be 29 state and regional Texas Teachers of the Year.

"The forum provides an outstanding way for public school educators and university faculty to discuss the pressing problems facing today's teachers," said Dr. William E. Reaves, the executive director of the Institute for School-University Partnerships.

"These discussions are then used to improve the teacher preparation programs in each A&M System university. This is crucial, since approximately 20 percent of Texas teachers who graduate from Texas colleges and universities are products of the A&M System's nine teacher preparation programs, " Dr. Reaves noted.
